Where Miami’s Creative Community Gets Its Hair Done

A perfect, shaggy coif of curls for Instagram’s it-girls. An edgy, two-toned bob with razored edges for a local artist. A furious burst of bright color for a 305 local. Chances are you’ve seen street style pics of Sodada Salon’s clients. Avant-garde and impossibly cool, they’re the artists and makers who are turning Miami stereotypes on their head. According to founder and director Solange Sarria, they come to Sodada Salon because their personal convictions align with the space’s ethos: Sarria has focused on creating a culturally inclusive, progressive yet elevated hairdressing experience.

“The typical Miami salon follows trends rather than focusing on the human experience,” Sarria said. “I want my clients to feel empowered in their own skin. If you want to use a trend to channel a character attribute you wish to strengthen, let’s do it. If you want to learn how to embrace your natural, mixed-race texture, we got you. If you need your wig styled for a drag show, come on down and we’ll vogue together.”

A multimedia artist and entrepreneur, Sarria had a vision for Sodada that was informed by her artistic background (the name “Sodada” is a nod to Dadaism, a movement that rejects conformity and capitalistic ideals). Sarria, whose hair styling credits include editorials for Cosmopolitan, Jute Magazine and GQ, and campaigns for Armani and Agent Provocateur, was the co-director of the now-shuttered Concept 5 Studio in Edgewater, which was selected Miami’s Best Salon by the New Times in 2015.

Cuts at Sodada Salon start at $75 for short hair, up to $95 for long hair. The salon also offers a variety of coloring services, and resident brow artist (and INDULGE favorite!) Brow Rehab is available for booking.
