Instagram’s Eva Chen will read from her new children’s book at the Miami Book Fair

The author of the new children's book Juno Valentine and the Magical Shoes will appear at the Miami Book Fair.

For her debut appearance at the Miami Book Fair, Eva Chen is admittedly nervous. Not about meeting fans or reading from her new children’s book, Juno Valentine and the Magical Shoes.

“It’s the angle,” she said. Most pictures taken at book fairs are of a fan standing next to a seated author. “I’m totally thinking about it. I don’t want 100 photos of me collapsed over a folding table!”

This should come as no surprise to people who know Chen, former editor of Lucky magazine and current head of Instagram’s fashion partnerships. She’s a social media pro and even has a trending hashtag, #EvaChenPose, devoted to the way she shows her shoes in pics.

The 35th Miami Book Fair will be Chen’s first time appearing as a published author at a major fair. She’ll join more than 500 authors November 11-18 for events in four languages.

Chen’s book, about a girl who is transported into the lives of famous women by trying on their shoes, prints this month. Aside from her angle prep, Chen said she’s also thinking about what to wear.

“Breezy floral dresses are trending right now, and I’m looking at something that’s fashionable but still appropriate for a book fair,” she said. “Everyone says to wear practical shoes, so I’m thinking practical shoes that look impractical.”

Chen’s reading is at 2:30 p.m. November 17 in the book fair’s Children’s Alley; tickets are free for kids under 12, $8 for adults and $5 for seniors.
