INDULGE asked some well-known Miami residents to open the doors of their out-of-state vacation homes and to tell us what they love about them. After all, these houses have to be pretty great to lure their owners out of Florida.

Who they are: Philanthropists.

Where they live in Miami: South of Fifth.

Where their vacation home is: Birmingham, Michigan.

Describe your second home in three words: “Urban. Sophisticated. Artistic.”

What do you love about it? “We love it because there is a sense of community,” Loree said. “We have family out there. Summer weather is perfect. There are fabulous restaurants, and we are close to downtown Detroit, which is full of culture. We have great neighbors, and we love the super-casual lifestyle. It is the perfect balance for us.”

Where they live in Miami: Sunset Island.

Where their vacation home is: Aspen, Colorado.

Describe your second home in three words: “Victorian. Happy. Laid-back.”

What do you love about it? “The city and the architecture,” Gigi said. “The high ceilings in the kitchen, living room and bedrooms are my favorite part of the home, as is the flooring, which is reclaimed barn wood. We love Aspen because different seasons allow for different activities and lots of family time, especially during Christmas and the Fourth of July. We all head out and take advantage. My husband and I love to explore on his Harley-Davidson. He drives, I sit on the back.”

Stephane Dupoux and Anetta Nowosielska: France

If you fancy fish for supper, you go and fish it from the sea. Time feels like it stands still. It’s a perfect complement to the crazy, hectic life we live here.”
